Dear Friends,
It's amazing how I come across useful articles, right when I need them. The August issue of Oprah magazine was put together with me in mind; from Dr. Oz's two-cents worth on drinking, and hairstylist Anthony Dickey's tips on how to live with your natural texture (frizzy crazy old lady hair) to superfood winners (Brussels sprouts, raspberry, chia and pumpkin seeds) and Oprah's own words of wisdom, "... how simple and beautiful life can be — if we choose to see it that way."
Now, there is a woman who knows how to handle her curls and curves (I know, I know, she's photoshopped). I have no idea who Ed Helm's character in The Office is, but I also liked what he had to say, "I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you've actually left them."
My good old days included popcorn, nachos, baguette and many other things. As I mentioned before, everything has its season. Sleeping-in just joined the "NO, NO" list.
5:15 - Body woke up — pain free, very mild wheezing, no coughing
An-hour massage, and only two glasses of wine, way before bedtime, proved to be wise moves.
9:18 - stiff Body slid out of bed
9:20 - a respectable drop in weight
10: 40 - Vanity fussing in front of the mirror
11:20 - from voluminous flying hair in the air, to tight old-lady curls
13:00 - the new haircut proved not to be a no muss, no fuss hairstyle — Vanity devastated
14:00 - although up for the cortisone shot on Tuesday, Body requested another massage
14: 45 - checked local gym — too expensive, too committing
15:55 - linner (lunch+dinner), a piece of panfried red meat, sautéed onion, mushrooms, red pepper, topped with a handful of finely chopped Italian parsley, drizzled with freshly squeezed lime juice, accompanied by a glass of Pinot Noir (getting the culprits out of the picture early has its rewards).
For the first time in many years, I chose to sit at the dining room table alone, savouring my meal, as if I were eating with the most enjoyable company. Complacency was back!
50 more days of dolce far niente
