Dear Friends,
According to Maureen Gaffney, psychologist and author, in order to be happily flourishing, we need a ratio of 5 positives to 1 negative. A ratio of 3 positives to 1 negative will only take us to the "managing zone!" And that's where I am — in the dangerous managing zone, where lurks the monotony of stability.
It's already August, and I haven't reached the "flourishing" zone yet! It seems, so far, all I've done is keep myself from going on downward spiral. Of course, considering the amount of force needed to prevent oneself from letting oneself go, I'm sure many will applaud my efforts; however, clearly, I'm not one of those people. I expected more from the first 31 days of my Renaissance Project.
Body is not pain-free yet, Vanity still doesn't see herself wearing the 5-year-old black skirt (although she can do up the zipper). Even the overworking Mind hasn't figured out how to implement her innovative grade three program, yet.
Exerting so much willpower cannot be good for either Mind or Body. Can Vanity save us from the plateau we have reached? Your guess is as good as mine!
32 days left to place your bets.
